Why Change Products Seasonally?

When the seasons change, we change our wardrobes so why not the products we put on our skin? How do seasonal changes impact your skin? Let me tell you about it!

How do seasonal changes affect the skin?

I always insist not to get panicked if you experience changes when summer paves the way to fall. Dryness, inflammation, cracked & flaky skin, etc, is extremely common due to loss in moisture. Since your skin barrier is disrupted during this time, it is more prone to irritation, redness, itchiness, and excessive dryness. We also take hot showers and switch on central heating systems – it might feel comforting but they may lead to a host of skin problems. This transition from winter to summer does a real number on the skin – it has to now adjust to warm/hot weather and humid air. More oil is trapped on the skin surface, so the skin feels greasy and sticky (I hate the feeling!). Of course those with oily skin experience more breakouts during this time. I want to help you with your seasonal skincare routine so here are some of my tips and recommendations.

Cleansers

Cleansers are the first step of skincare regimens (most important one too). Mild and light cleansers are great all year round but they are my go-to when temperatures rise. The Julie Lindh Elderflower Face Cleanser, is gentle on your skin, as it is formulated with a deeply luxurious mix of nourishing essential oils to soothe and hydrate. Thick, hydrating products are a must when the chill sets in, as your skin needs to compensate for moisture loss. Try The Daily Face Wash by Julie Lindh – it cleanses deep and is light on the skin.

Exfoliators

During the winter months, it is all about keeping your skin smooth. Cold air leaves skin extremely dry and rough, so layers of dead skin pile up on the surface. With the onset of spring, you can switch to a gentler variety to keep skin clean and fresh after removing dirt, grime, oil, etc. Want smoother skin all year round? Who doesn’t? Go for the Julie Lindh Triple Action Peel Pads! It promotes skin clarity by banishing fine lines and wrinkles from your face.

Serums

Face serums should be used throughout the year. They are necessary to lock in moisture and nourish the skin thoroughly in the colder months, so I would recommend oil based serums. But when we are transition to the warmer months, please shift to lightweight serums that are water based. They absorb fast, and provide essential nutrients for the skin. Two of my favorite face serums are Julie Lindh Potent Peptides Face Serum and Julie Lindh Cell Booster Face Serum are great.

Moisturizers

Before we get into moisturizers, I can’t say this enough – sunscreen isn’t optional, regardless of the season. Sun exposure leads to premature aging of skin, sunburn, blemishes, and other issues, so please use a dedicated product for sun protection. My go to is this Mineral Shield Powder SPF 25.

Now on to moisturizers - Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize! Not all moisturizers are the same. Like all skincare products, you have to find the right one for your skin type. Know your skin type, and then opt for a heavier moisturizer during the colder months to replenish moisture content in your skin. A lighter moisturizer when the temp goes up for sure – those with oily skin should definitely stick to oil-free moisturizers! Not trying to break the bank and purchase two types of moisturizers? I don’t blame you. So here’s a good recommendation: Miss Julie’s V-Nutrient Creme. This all-natural moisturizer provides the skin with the ingredients it needs to maintain a healthy, glowing appearance.
